After looking at Expeditions, Tahoes, and Burbans online, she has decided that she likes this newer Dodge Durango R/T AWD Hemi the most. She’ll be right pissed if I take it one weekend and throw a two chamber Flowmaster on it without her knowing.

We won’t be buying anything until February at the earliest (maybe March), but I’ll find her one of these.

The Durango is a nice choice. There aren’t many vehicles on the market that ride so well yet offer a V8 for that price point. I think the Mercedes GLS would be the closest comparison. The Durango is also one of the more reliable vehicles FCA builds, since it’s got the trusty hemi and the industry standard 8 speed.

I discussed the GLS with her. She didn’t want MB upkeep. Our kids trash her car despite our threats of permanent grounding, so something that nice isn’t in the cards quite yet.

We MUST have a third row. Wife doesn’t want a super nice car because our kids will absolutely screw up the interior. We also don’t want to do a brand new car for the same exact reason.

Once the kids get a little older, I’ll totally buy her the Volvo (it’s a vehicle I’ve thought about for her a lot, actually).

I’ve been trying for years to sell my wife on the Flex. I refuse to own a Yukon/suburban mama mobile as much as I refuse to own a minivan. Isn’t the Flex AWD too?

But if her student loans were paid for and I had about 25k in savings and a few minor investments (say another 25k mixed up in various commodities, looking at you for help Pat ) I would snatch up an xc90 PDQ.

Those are nice. Comfortable and plenty of power. My wife and I looked at them to replace our q7, but held off, then we had a third kid, so those don’t work so well for 3 car seated kids.

It may seem tough to convince her but there are just too many obvious rad things about the alternative you are looking for. Only thing of course is the price that in typical Volvo fashion, it’s not super high like a BMW but not mega cheap either. Flex AWD, XC90, or Mazda CX9 just fit so well. Hopefully sooner than later homie.

Have you considered one of the GM crossovers (Enclave or Traverse). Sure they are fwd, but awd is available. Supposedly, they have more interior room than a Tahoe. We replaced our Odyssey with an Enclave and never looked back. 2017 will be the last year for the current iteration, so there should be some good deals available at the end of next year.

The kids destroy the seats, floors, and headliner (I don’t know how they do it, but they do). This is why I have a strict “no food or beverage” rule in my CTS.

Wife had a first year Enclave and loved it. The AC gave us fits (I rack that up to first year, first generation bugs), but otherwise it was a great family cruiser. We’ll consider it, but she damn near fell out of her seat when she saw the Durango R/T.

In ‘07, my wife fell in love with the Land Rover LR3. Then we test drive one. Seats were uncomfortable, and it had $15k worth of crap that she would never use ( don’t run into many sand dunes on the way to work).

If the car doesn’t fit, we will acquit.

You’ll like the dango then, especially with captains chairs. That’s what we were specifically looking for, as our q7 had the bench 2nd row. It was a pain to get to the 3rd row.

Yeah. She doesn’t like the Caddy (she says that it looks like a Hearse), but I think the QX80 is a tad too large for her (which is funny, because she drives an Expedition now). She likes the QX60, though.
